SALINA -- How quickly did Kansas Wesleyan's Coyotes strike Saturday night against the McPherson College Bulldogs?
Put it this way. The Coyotes had 28 points before the Bulldogs had their initial first down of the game.
Kansas Wesleyan jumped on Mac for four first-quarter touchdowns and never looked back in a 42-6 KCAC victory at Martin Stadium.
The Coyotes stayed in the KCAC chase, as they are 3-2 in the conference, 4-2 overall. Mac fell to 0-5 and its game Saturday at St. Mary of Leavenworth may determine which team stays out of the conference cellar.
KW quarterback T.J. O'Neill, who wasn't cleared to play until Friday after suffering a concussion last week against Ottawa, played less than a quarter, but directed the first three scoring drives and hit 7 of 10 passes for 116 yards.
After the initial blast, Mac did not permit another score the rest of the half to trail 28-0, but the Coyotes scored twice in the third quarter to go up 42-0. Mac avoided the shutout when Jay Williams scored with 2:21 left in the game. The Bulldogs have scored just three touchdowns in five games, all coming in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs had 173 total yards for the game, with Williams picking up 60 on 21 carries. Prescott Hill, who had two touchdowns for the Coyotes, had 95 on 16 attempts and Mark Cressman, who also scored twice, had 104 yards in receiving.
