Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson women’s soccer team found itself in an early 1-0 lead just 13 minutes into the game, but a goal in the 17th minute by the Coyotes forced a 1-1 double overtime tie with Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon.
McPherson (1-1-1, 4-4-2) was outshot by the Coyotes (2-0-1, 6-4-2) 28-9, but five of the nine McPherson shots were on goal.
McPherson broke the scoreless tie in the 12th minute when Amanda Aragon received a pass from Whitney Williams at the top of the 18-yard box. Aragon took one touch and blasted the ball into the upper 90, giving McPherson an early 1-0 lead.
The goal is Aragon’s third of the season.
The Coyotes would not be held scoreless for long, brining the game even just five minutes later as Corina Villegas found the ball at her feet inside the six yard box and just beat the diving Andrea Swanson.
Both sides had a number of chances throughout the remainder of the match, but were unable to convert on the opportunities.
McPherson goalkeeper Andrea Swanson finished the contest with 10 saves in 110 minutes.
McPherson returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 14, when they travel to North Newton to take on Bethel College. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
