Men’s soccer defeats Sterling, 1-0

Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College controlled possession for a majority of the 90 minutes to extend their KCAC unbeaten streak to eight games with a 1-0 win against Sterling College Wednesday night at McPherson Stadium.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 14-1 (8-0 KCAC), while the Warriors drop to 5-8-3 (2-4-2 KCAC).

Junior forward Brent Mulford broke the stalemate with his 10th goal of the season in the 40th minute. Mulford volleyed a Jose Arenas blocked shot towards the upper left corner, beating the Warrior goalkeeper to give McPherson the 1-0 advantage. Arenas was credited an assist on the play.

The Bulldogs had multiple chances to add an insurance goal, but were unable to convert the opportunities.

McPherson finished the night with 18 shots, led by senior Armando Rodriguez with five attempts on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Blake Jett tallied his eighth shutout of the season, recording three saves in 90 minutes.

McPherson hopes to lock up the KCAC regular season title in their matchup against Bethany College Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
