Bulldogs thump Warriors, 7-0

Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The Bulldogs exploded offensively for 39 shots en route to a 7-0 victory over the Sterling College Warriors Wednesday night at McPherson Stadium.

“The team had another solid performance tonight,” said McPherson coach Robert Talley. “We seem to be finding our scoring rhythm at just at the right time.”

With the win, McPherson improves to 8-4-3 (5-1-2 KCAC), while the Warriors drop to 3-12-1 (0-7-1 KCAC).

McPherson controlled the tempo the entire game outshooting the Warriors 39-5. Twenty-four of McPherson’s shots were on frame. The Bulldogs also held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Junior forward Haley Cook led the McPherson attack with eight shots, including three on frame, two goals and one assist. Whitney Williams finished the contest with six shots and two assists, respectively.

McPherson wasted no time getting on the board as junior forward Haley Cook found the back of the net at 2:58. Freshman Richelle Mascaro sent the McPherson free kick into the penalty area to senior Whitney Williams. Williams headed the ball back to Cook who tucked it into the back of the net for her third game winning goal on the season.

The Bulldogs struck again 15 minutes later after a Haley Cook’s shot was blocked, but fell to the feet of Whitney Williams who one touched a pass to freshman Breana Jones. Jones placed the ball in the lower left corner, beating the diving Warrior keeper to extend the McPherson lead to two.

Cook would add her second goal of the match, followed by a Rachael Cornell sliding finish to extend the MC lead to 4-0 at half.

With the wind now in their favor, the Bulldogs showed no signs of letting up, scoring in the 61st minute as the Warrior keeper punched a ball to the feet of Ana Calderon. Calderon took one touch and blasted the ball past the recovering goalkeeper.

MC added two additional goals prior to the final whistle for a decisive 7-0 victory.

McPherson returns to action for their final regular season contest Saturday, Oct. 31, against Bethany College. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
