Box Score Leavenworth, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team dominated the first set, but lost the next three in a 3-1 (15-25, 25-22, 25-21, 29-27) defeat to the University of Saint Mary Wednesday night in Leavenworth. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 7-16 overall and 6-9 in KCAC action, placing McPherson in a three-way tie for sixth place with the University of Saint Mary and Bethany College.
The Bulldogs received quality performances across the board starting with freshman Natalie Boss and senior Dana Gordon. Boss recorded a team high 12 kills hitting .162 for the match while Gordon posted 10 kills with only two errors on 26 attempts.
Defensively the Bulldogs had three players with double-digit digs, led by sophomore libero Brooke Wedel. Wedel finished the night with 17 kills, while freshman Kaylee Joseph tallied 15 and junior Kelley Green ended with 12.
The Bulldogs dominated in set one, but the Spires answered back with narrow victories in sets two and three to take the match lead 2-1.
In the pivotal fourth set, the Bulldogs battled hard, but were unable to shutdown the Spire attack that pulled out the fourth set 29-27.
Both sides finished the match hitting .221, but the Spires edged McPherson in kills, 48-46. The Bulldogs defense out blocked USM 15.0-6.5.
The Bulldogs season is far from over with three important matches remaining on the schedule. The first of which is Saturday, Oct. 31, when Sterling College comes to the McPherson Sport Center. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
