Box Score Ottawa, Kan. – McPherson took 10 shots and freshmen Alexys Hendrickson tallied her first goal of the season, but the Bulldogs women’s soccer team could not overcome a strong Ottawa University offensive attack as McPherson dropped a 3-1 decision to Ottawa on Saturday afternoon at Peoples Bank Field.
"Overcoming adversity is a true test of a team's character," said McPherson coach Robert Talley. "We faced the toughest team we've seen all season and battled hard for 89 minutes. Today's score does not justify how competitive the game was."
Hendrickson’s goal came in the 72nd minute. The goal tied the score, but Ottawa was able to hold off McPherson by scoring two goals in the last 10 minutes of the contest.
The Braves, 25-10, outshot McPherson.
Ottawa got on the board in the 28th minute when Samantha Mayfield converted off a pass from Kayla Huitt. McPherson went into the locker room down 1-0.
After the McPherson goal, Ottawa rebounded with a goal of their own in the 81st minute and added a second in the 89th minute to give the Braves a 3-1 victory.
The Bulldogs now look to rebound against Tabor College on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
