Box Score Salina, Kan. – The McPherson women’s soccer team surrendered two goals and could not overcome the deficit against a tough Kansas Wesleyan University squad, as the Bulldogs dropped the semifinal round of the KCAC Championship tournament on Tuesday afternoon, 2-0.
Kansas Wesleyan outshot McPherson, 16-4. Two of McPherson’s four shots were on frame.
McPherson had their first scoring opportunity early in the first half, but Ana Calderon’s shot went high, keeping the match knotted at zero. The Coyotes scored the game winning goal in the 12th minute when Megan Couch controlled a deflection and shot into the back of the net.
Couch extended the KWU lead to 2-0 seven minutes into the second half, receiving a pass from Sarah Macy and blasting it into the top corner from 30 yards away.
Freshman Breana Jones early put McPherson on the board a minute later, but her attempt was saved by the Kansas Wesleyan goalkeeper.
Offensively Jones, Whitney Williams, Richelle Mascaro and Ana Calderon all finished the match with one shot.
McPherson goalkeeper Andrea Swanson played all 90 minutes, recording two saves, while allowing two goals.
With the loss, McPherson is 10-5-3 with a 6-1-2 record in KCAC play.
