Men’s basketball thumps Crusaders, 81-52

Men's Basketball | 11/11/2009 12:00:00 AM

Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s basketball team bookended a pair of 9-0 runs in the first half en route to an 81-52 victory over Manhattan Christian College Tuesday night in the McPherson Sport Center.

“I was especially pleased that we could play all 14 players who suited,” said McPherson head coach Tim Swartzendruber. “Our freshmen made strong contributions and that was great to see. Our defensive pressure continues to be a strong suit and we hope to continue improving our offensive execution.”

The McPherson defense clamped down right from the start, holding the Crusaders to 25 percent (6-of-24) shooting and only 18 first half points, while forcing 13 first half turnovers.

The Bulldogs were balanced offensive with 12 of the 14 players scoring points. Senior guard Charles Moore II paced McPherson with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, while freshman center Mason Hewitt chipped in 10, respectively. Moore fell one rebound short of a double double with nine.

McPherson finished the game with a slight edge in rebounds, 38-22. McPherson also boasted a 26-14 advantage in points off turnovers and 45 points off the bench.

Manhattan Christian was led by junior forward Mike Williams, who recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

McPherson returns to action Saturday, Nov. 14 as the Bulldogs welcome Hastings College to the Sport Center. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
