Box Score Leavenworth, Kan. – Nine McPherson players scored, led by freshman Emily James with a career-high nine points, but a balanced Johnson & Wales attack proved too much, as the Wildcats downed the Bulldog women’s basketball team, 67-55 Saturday night at the USM Classic.
The loss drops McPherson to 2-2 on the season.
Along with James, senior Michelle Ducy and junior Kristen Ozbun chipped in eight points apiece.
JWU had four players in double figures, led by guard Sarah Fitzpatrick with 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. Johnson & Wales held a slim, 28-22, first half lead. The Wildcats turned up the offense in the second half, shooting 12-of-25 (48.0 percentin) from the field, including 5-of-8 from three point range.
As a team, McPherson connected on 19-of-76 (25.0 percent) attempts from the field to Johnson & Wales 21-of-54 (38.9 percent). The Wildcats held a slight edge in rebounding, 49-46, while the Bulldogs forced the Wildcats into 21 turnovers. McPherson protected the ball well, finishing the night with a season-low 11 turnovers.
McPherson returns to action Tuesday, as they take on Central Christian College with a 6:00 p.m. contest inside the McPherson Sport Center.
