Bulldogs stumble in loss to Southwestern College

Box Score Winfield, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team struggled to find its offensive rhythm as the Moundbuilders defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) Tuesday night. With only one match remaining, the loss locks the Bulldogs in at the number eight seed for the upcoming KCAC postseason tournament.

The loss is McPherson’s third straight defeat, dropping the Bulldogs’ record to 7-18 overall and 6-11 in the KCAC. The Moundbuilders improved their overall mark to 7-19 and conference record to 4-13.

Sophomore hitter Amy Neufeld headlined the struggling McPherson offense. Neufeld led McPherson with eight kills on a team best .263 hitting percentage. Freshmen Callie McCaffrey and Natalie Boss each added five more kills.

The Bulldogs tallied a season low .019 hitting percentage, including 25 kills, 23 errors on 108 total attempts. The McPherson defense recorded 35 digs and 13.0 blocks on the night.

McPherson returns to action Thursday evening in their final regular season match against Bethel College. Bethel enters the match 15-14 overall and 12-5 in KCAC play. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Thresher Gymnasium.
