Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team struggled to get into a rhythm in their home opener Tuesday night against Friends University. The Bulldogs dropped the match in four sets, 27-29, 15-25, 26-24, 18-25.

“We did not execute our game plan,” said McPherson head coach Susan Barton. “We fought hard and it wasn’t because of a lack of effort we lost. We just did not do what was necessary to win. We did not block well, nor did our defense play the way we needed to.”

The Bulldogs (1-1, 2-7) had one player finish with more than 10 kills as Kiley Loesch recorded 11 kills on 45 attempts with six errors.

The Bulldogs defense was led by libero Brooke Wedel with 21 digs, posting her first 20 dig game of the season.

MC came out hot in the first set, extending their lead to as much as nine points, but allowed the Falcons to battle back, bringing the game even at 16. The Bulldogs extended their lead back out to three at 24-21, but were unable to finish off set point. The hot hitting Falcons battled to win set one, 29-27.

The Falcons took set two in dominating fashion winning 25-15. MC came back to take set three, but the Falcons again answered the call winning set four and the match.

“Tonight was a disappointment, but we need to learn from it, regroup and battle hard on Monday night,” said Barton.

McPherson resumes action Monday, Sept. 21, against Tabor College at the McPherson College Sport Center. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
