Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s soccer team got back to their winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist University Saturday night at McPherson Stadium. Senior forward Armando Rodriguez recorded a goal and an assist in the victory.
“This was a big win for us,” said McPherson head coach Doug Quint. “To bounce back after such a poor performance on Wednesday night was huge for our team. We stuck to the game plan and were able to execute.”
Junior forward Brent Mulford netted his fifth goal of the season off an assist from Armando Rodriguez to give McPherson an early 1-0 lead. Rodriguez added a second goal in the 86th minute to seal the 2-0 victory for the Bulldogs.
The win improves McPherson’s record to 4-1, while OBU slips to 2-2-3.
The McPherson defense posted their third shutout of the season. McPherson allowed 18 shots with goalkeeper Blake Jett making five saves, including a save on a penalty kick to hold OBU scoreless.
McPherson will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 23, against Central Christian College in the 3rd annual S.O.C.R. benefit game. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. at McPherson Stadium
