Men extend win streak to three with 5-1 win at Manhattan Christian College

Men's Soccer | 9/28/2009 12:00:00 AM

Box Score Manhattan, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s soccer team jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Manhattan Christian scored a goal in the 60th minute to break-up the shutout as the Bulldogs defeated the Crusaders 5-1 in Manhattan, Kan., Saturday afternoon.

“We had a good performance today that wrapped up our non-conference schedule,” said McPherson head coach Doug Quint. “Armando Rodriguez had an outstanding day. With his five goals, Armando put himself over the 50-goal mark for his career at McPherson College. That is quite an accomplishment at the collegiate level.

Senior forward Armando Rodriguez led the McPherson attack with four goals to move one goal past Brent Mulford for team lead with seven goals on the season. Rodriguez extended his McPherson College career goals record to 51 goals in less than four seasons as a Bulldog.

Rodriguez’s efforts gave McPherson a four-goal lead in the 52nd minute. The Bulldogs added a fifth score when Tyler Tank placed a deflection into the back of the net for his first goal of the season and collegiate career.

The Crusaders would net one of their own in the 60th minute, but the Bulldog defense proved too much, shutting out MCC the rest of the way.

McPherson outshot the Crusaders, 12-6, including 11 shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Blake Jett recorded his sixth win of the season.

With the win the Bulldogs finish the non-conference portion of their schedule 6-1.

McPherson returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, when they open KCAC play at Ottawa University. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
