Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s basketball team’s offense never got on track as the Bulldogs fell to Southwestern, 79-52 in McPherson Thursday night.
With the loss, McPherson drops to 4-9 and 1-4 in KCAC action, while the Lady Builders improve to 11-4 and 4-1 in conference play.
Freshman Shireana Robinson recorded her fourth double double of the season, recording a game high 17 points and 10 rebounds in the effort. Junior guard Kristen Ozbun was next on the McPherson scoring list with eight, respectively.
The two sides traded baskets over the initial five minutes of the game, until a 16-0 run spanning a little over five minutes by the Lady Builders gave Southwestern a 24-8 lead with 10:04 remaining in the half. Southwestern used a second first half run to propel them to a 26 point, 46-20 lead with 3:21 left before halftime.
Free throws by Robinson and Ozbun cut the Lady Builder lead to 20, 47-27 at the break.
In the first half, McPherson shot 12-of-32 (37.5 percent) from the field, but struggled from beyond the three-point line, finishing the half 0-of-8.
Senior guard Michelle Ducy connected on a layup and a three pointer early in the second half to cut the deficit to 14 points, but the Lady Builders proved to be too much down the stretch, pushing the lead back out to around 30 points.
McPherson finished the game shooting 29.9 percent (20-of-67) from the field, including going only 1-of-18 from beyond the three-point arch.
Southwestern ended the night shooting 35.9 percent from the field. The Lady Builders converted 22 McPherson turnovers into 15 steals and 26 points.
Jordan Jarnagin led Southwestern in scoring with 15 points, while Jasmine Manuel finished with 14 and Andrea Smith ended the night with 10 points.
McPherson is back in action Sat., Jan. 9, in Leavenworth, Kan., as the Bulldogs take on the University of Saint Mary.
