McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson men’s soccer team attempted 27 shots, including 14 on goal, but could only put one in the back of the net as the Bulldogs dropped a 2-1 overtime contest to Ottawa University on Saturday night in McPherson, Kan. Senior forward Brent Mulford (Topeka, Kan.) netted MC’s lone goal.
With the loss, McPherson drops to 5-5-1 on the season and 2-1-0 in KCAC play, while the Braves improve to 4-7-1 overall and 3-0-0 in conference action.
Mulford opened the scoring with his team leading eighth goal of the season in the 34th minute when he fought off a pair of OU defenders to touch the ball past the Ottawa goalkeeper.
McPherson clung to the 1-0 lead until the 59th minute when Ottawa midfielder Philip Nguyen caught the Bulldog defense off guard with a quick free kick that bent past the MC goalkeeper to knot the score at one apiece.
The two sides would battle into overtime, but the Braves that would net the game winning goal in the 96th minute to give OU at 2-1 overtime victory.
McPherson returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 13, when the Bulldogs play host to Bethel College. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. at McPherson Stadium.
