McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s soccer team dropped a hard fought 2-1 decision to Friends University on Saturday evening at McPherson Stadium.

With the loss, McPherson drops to 6-6-1 overall and 3-2-0 in conference action, while the Falcons improve to 8-4-0 and 4-1-0 in KCAC play.

McPherson opened the scoring in the 14th minute when sophomore Michael Phillips (Midland, Texas) netted his first collegiate goal off a pass from Lance Dick (Hutchinson, Kan.). Dick’s pass came off a corner kick, which Phillips blasted past the Falcon goalkeeper. The score gave McPherson a 1-0 halftime lead.

Friends, however, would tie the score in the 74th minute on a free kick from approximately 25 yards out. McPherson battled through the remainder of regulation, but could not notch the game winning goal.

The Falcons would notch the game winning goal four minutes into the first overtime on another free kick. The goal gave Friends the 2-1 win.

For the game, Friends held a slight, 13-11, advantage in shots.

The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday as they travel to Sterling College. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. in Sterling, Kan.
