Sterling, Kan. – A pair of second half goals by senior Calin Strong (Manhattan, Kan.) propelled the McPherson College men’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory against Sterling College Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Stadium.
The victory improves McPherson to 7-6-1 overall and 4-2-0 in conference action, while Sterling falls to 2-11-2 overall and a winless 0-6-0 in KCAC play.
Sterling opened the scoring in the 36 minute when Casey Dean found the back of the net to give the Warriors the 1-0 advantage. Although, just three minutes later McPherson senior defender Tyler Tank (Austin, Texas) tallied his fourth goal of the season to bring the score even, 1-1.
Strong notched the eventual game winner in the 61st minute, before adding an insurance goal in the 83rd minute off an assist from Brent Mulford (Topeka, Kan.). Strong’s goals are his first and second of the season.
McPherson held a 20-10 advantage in shots, including 11 shots on goal.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 as they travel to Bethany College. Match time is set for 4:00 p.m. in Lindsborg, Kan.
