Bulldogs use strong first half to beat Bethany, 2-0

Lindsborg, Kan. – The McPherson women’s soccer team tallied 15 first half shots en route to a 2-0 victory at Bethany College Saturday afternoon in Lindsborg, Kan.

The win improves McPherson to 6-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play, while the Swedes fall to 5-10-1 and 1-6-0 in KCAC action.

Senior Haley Cook (Littleton, Colo.) netted her fourth goal of the season in the 21st minute to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0. Junior Stachea Perea (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was credited with the assist. Four minutes later McPherson would extend its lead to 2-0 when Amanda Aragon (Thornton, Colo.) found the back of the net. Aragon’s goal gives her a team-high five goals on the season.

Overall, McPherson outshot Bethany 18-6, including nine shots on frame. The Swedes held a slight, 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) recorded her fifth shutout of the season with four saves in 90 minutes.

The Bulldogs will return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct 27 when they take on Southwestern College. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
