Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team picked up its eighth win out of its last 10 matches with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-22) sweep of inter-county rival Bethany College Thursday night at the McPherson Sport Center.
"I was pleased with how the girls got ahead and stayed ahead in each set tonight," said McPherson head coach Susan Barton. "Our execution was better tonight that on Tuesday. That is something that we must continue as we strive to be among the top in conference. Overall, I was very pleased with the match."
With the win, McPherson bettered its record to 12-8 overall and 5-4 in KCAC play, while Bethany drops to 6-14 overall and 3-8 in conference action. The Bulldogs currently rank fifth in the KCAC standings.
McPherson looked efficient in set one, winning 25-20, before exploding for a 25-15 win in the second frame. The Bulldogs recorded a match best 16 kills while only committing two errors. MC sealed the win with a 25-22 decision in the third and final set.
Sophomore Natalie Boss (Waterville, Kan.) led the Bulldog hitters with 14 kills, while junior Kory Hiebert (Goessel, Kan.), the only other Bulldog in double figures, tallied 13 of her own. Hiebert led the team with a .632 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Brelynn Schloo (Salina, Kan.) registered a match-high 37 assists and freshman Karina Harvey (Walton, Kan.) continued her consistent play with seven digs. Junior libero Brooke Wedel (Moundridge, Kan.) recorded two service aces in the effort.
McPherson takes the weekend off before returning to action on Monday, Oct. 11 at Bethel College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. inside Thresher Gymnasium in North Newton, Kan.
