Salina, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s soccer team could not recover from a two-goal halftime deficit as the Bulldogs fell to Kansas Wesleyan University, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon at Salina Stadium.

Despite the score, the Bulldogs never seemed out of the match. MC tallied seven shots, including three shots on frame. Seniors Brent Mulford (Topeka, Kan.) and Lance Dick (Hutchinson, Kan.) led McPherson with three shots apiece, including two shots on goal from Mulford.

After McPherson controlled much of the possession early in the first half, Kansas Wesleyan grabbed the early lead when a failed clearance turned into a Coyote goal in the 22nd minute. The Bulldogs continued to battle, but it was Kansas Wesleyan who found the back of the net in the 36th minute to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead.

Bad luck struck again in the 51st minute, as KWU took a 3-0 advantage on a near post strike that just beat the MC goalkeeper.

Despite the deficit on the scoreboard, the Bulldogs continued to fight, but failed to finish their opportunities.

Kansas Wesleyan outshot McPherson, 13-7, and held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

With the loss, MC finishes its season with a 9-9-1 overall record and 5-4-0 mark in conference play.
