Bulldogs comeback for win in season finale

Lindsborg, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s volleyball team battled back after falling behind early to hand Bethany College a 3-2 loss Wednesday evening in the Bulldogs regular season finale.

Bethany took the opening two sets 26-24 and 25-19, but McPherson fought back to win the next three 25-16, 25-21, 16-14 in collecting the victory.

With the win, McPherson improves to 20-12 overall and 11-7 in the KCAC, while the Swedes fall to 7-22 overall and 4-14 in league action.

Junior Kory Hiebert (Goessel, Kan.) had a big match for the Bulldogs as she hammered home 18 kills and posted a .326 hitting percentage to go along with her five blocks. Sophomore Natalie Boss (Waterville, Kan.) helped out with 12 kills on 22 attempts and just one error.

Defensively, junior libero Brooke Wedel (Moundridge, Kan.) had a team-leading 15 digs, while setter Brelynn Schloo (Salina, Kan.) registered 14 digs to go along with her 46 assists.

McPherson’s most dominating set came in the third, as the Bulldogs hammered home 15 kills on 27 attempts with just one error for a .519 hitting percentage. Overall, MC finished the night with a .224 hitting percentage and nine team blocks.

McPherson returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 9, when they open KCAC Tournament play at Tabor College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Hillsboro, Kan.
