Bartlesville, Okla. – The McPherson College men’s basketball team struggled in the first half and could not recover as the Bulldogs fell 105-74 to Oklahoma Wesleyan University Saturday night in Bartlesville, Okla.
The loss puts McPherson at 2-1 on the season.
"We were flat from the start," said McPherson head coach Tim Swartzendruber. "They are an oustanding team and were unconscious shooting the ball. We dug ourselves a hole and could never recover. Hopefully we learned a lesson on being ready to play."
McPherson finished the night hitting 39.1 percent (27-of-69) from the field, including 8-of-26 from beyond the three-point arc. The Bulldogs struggled slightly from the free throw line connecting on 12-of-20 attempts (60.0 percent.)
Meanwhile, the Eagles shot 44.6 percent (33-of-74) from the field, including 56.8 percent (21-of-37) in the first half.
Oklahoma Wesleyan jumped out to a 57-27 lead after the first 20 minutes and matched the Bulldogs basket for basket in the second half en route to the 105-74 win.
For the second game in a row, freshman Samson Shivers (Houston, Texas) paced the McPherson offense with 16 points, while forwards Mason Hewitt (Norwich, Kan.) and Jordan Crawford (McPherson, Kan.) tallied 12 points a apiece to round out the double figure scorers for the Bulldogs.
Forward Sadiel Rojas scored a game-high 40 points to lead Oklahoma Wesleyan.
McPherson returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Manhattan Christian College. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Manhattan, Kan.
