Wichita, Kan. – Friends used a strong second half run to pull away from the McPherson College women’s basketball team during a 72-54 road loss Saturday evening at the Garvey Center in Wichita, Kan.

The Bulldogs drop to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while Friends improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in KCAC action.

An Elice Frey (Riley, Kan.) put back with 10:14 remaining pulled the Bulldogs within nine points, 46-35, but it would not be enough, as the Falcons responded with a 19-7 run. The streak included field goals from five different Falcons, including three-pointers by Ta’vionna Polley-Davis and Ashley Mills.

Three Bulldogs scored in double figures. Freshman forward Tori Verdieck (New Castle, Colo.) tallied a team-high 14 points on 3-of-5 shooting, while converting 8-of-11 free throw attempts, while junior guard Sierra Gillespie (Chase, Kan.) notched 12 points and freshman Madison Chambers (Wellsville, Kan.) had 10. Chambers led the team with three assists and three steals.

As a team, McPherson shot only 27.3 percent (18-of-66) from the field, including only 23.7 percent in the first half. The squad also struggled from the foul line going just 14-of-24 (58.3 percent). The Bulldogs held a slight edge in rebounds, 51-46.

The Falcons had four individuals finish the night with double figures, including Polley-Davis and Mills scoring 20 points apiece. Polley-Davis also tallied a game-high 10 rebounds and nine assists in the win.

McPherson returns to action on Monday, January 3 when they travel to York College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
