Box Score McPherson, Kan. – Friends senior Jessica Halsig lit up the nets, hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers on her way to 24 points as Friends University defeated McPherson, 80-58, on Saturday evening at the McPherson Sport Center. Junior guard Kristen Ozbun led the Bulldogs with 18 points as MC dropped to 6-18 overall and 3-13 in league play, while Friends improves to 12-14 overall and 8-8 in the KCAC.
Halsig was on fire from the start, scoring 10 of the Falcons first 14 points as Friends jumped out to an early 14-8 lead. McPherson cut the deficit to two, 25-23 with 6:14 left, before a 10-0 Falcon run pushed the lead back to 12, 35-23.
McPherson failed to cut the deficit going into the halftime locker room down 14, 42-28.
In the second half, Friends jumped on the Bulldogs early with a 9-0 run to push their lead to 18, 51-33. McPherson would not pull the lead closer than 14 the rest of the way as the Falcon offense proved too strong in the second half.
The Bulldogs finished the game hitting just 22-of-60 from the field (36.7 percent) and just 3-of-15 from three-point range.
Friends continued its hot ride throughout the game, finishing the contest hitting 50.0 percent from the field, including 6-of-13 from three-point range. Along with Halsig’s 24, Kinsley Hilst added 16 points and a team high six rebounds.
Ozbun led the Bulldogs with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting. McPherson out rebounded the Falcons 42-34.
The Bulldogs begin a road swing with a contest at No. 15 Sterling College on Thursday, Feb. 18. MC and Sterling will tipoff at 6:00 p.m.
