Wichita, Kan. – The McPherson College softball team bounced back from three Friday losses with a pair of impressive victories, defeating Haskell Indian Nations University, 10-9, and Dana College 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Two Rivers Softball Complex in Wichita, Kan.

Sophomore Katie Logan hit a two run home run in the bottom of the third to help the Bulldogs (4-3, 0-0) extend its lead out to 4-2 against Dana College, while junior Kelsey Gray had a team high three RBIs to help complete a comeback against Haskell.

Down two runs in the top of the sixth, sophomore Haley Kinney drove a line drive into center field, plating two McPherson runs to give McPherson the late 10-9 advantage over the Indians.

Haskell threatened in the bottom of the seventh as a leadoff single followed by a wild pitch put a runner on second base with only one out. However, McPherson pitcher Kelsey Dutton closed the door on the Indians striking out the next two.

Haskell opened the game with runs in the first and second inning, only to see McPherson score three in the third to take the lead 3-2. The Indians answered with four in the bottom half, but the Bulldogs rallied to score five in the fourth.

Against Dana, McPherson jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after a Sadie Green single drove in two runs with two outs. Dana matched the score an inning later, but the Bulldogs again answered as Katie Logan blasted her first home run of the season, a two-run bomb over the left field fence. Logan’s home run proved to be the eventual game winner as the Bulldogs defeated Dana 4-2.

Freshman Kelsey Dutton picked up both wins. The freshman from Limo, Colo., pitched 9.1 innings, allowing two runs on nine hits, while striking out 16, including a season-high 11 strikeouts in the game against Dana.

McPherson will be back in action Friday, March 12, when they host the annual McPherson College Tournament at Wall Park. The Bulldogs open action at 10:30 a.m. against Concordia University.
