McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College softball team hosted Friends University at Wall Park in its KCAC home opener Friday evening where the Bulldogs fell 8-1 to the Falcons in game one of a doubleheader.

The Bulldogs found themselves down 4-1 entering the final frame before a four run seventh by the Falcons put the game out of reach, 8-1.

Freshman right-hander Kelsey Dutton (4-4), who pitched 7.0 innings, took the loss. Dutton allowed eight runs (six earned), while walking one and striking out three. For the Falcons, Cara Russell got the win with 6.0 innings of work and allowing just one run.

Offensively for McPherson, sophomore Katie Logan produced two of the four McPherson hits, including a single that drove in the lone Bulldog run in the bottom of the sixth. Logan finished the day 2-for-3 with one RBI. Senior Kristen Ozbun scored MC’s only run.

Friends held McPherson off the scoreboard prior to the sixth inning when the Bulldogs took advantage of the Falcon mistake, as Ozbun reached on a dropped pop up. After a ground out by Kelsey Dutton advanced Ozbun to second base, Katie Logan drove a single to center to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.

Despite the momentum the Bulldogs were unable to post any additional runs. Friends would add four more in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach, 8-1.

McPherson (0-3, 5-7-1) will look to split the doubleheader and earn its first KCAC victory of the season in game two.
