Softball stumbles at Bethany, Falls 3-2, 4-0 in double header

Lindsborg, Kan. – The McPherson College softball team (0-6, 5-11-1) traveled to Lindsborg, Kan., for its second road trip in three days against Bethany College. The Bulldogs fell 3-2 in game one and dropped game two 4-0 to Bethany.

Trailing the Bulldogs 2-1, Bethany used a two-run sixth inning to storm past MC and win game one. In game two the McPherson offense never got started, as the Bulldogs recorded only three hits in seven innings.

Game 1 – Bethany 3, McPherson 2

Bethany opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Morgan Evans scored on a ground ball to the pitcher’s mound.

The Bulldogs took back the lead in the top of the fifth when junior Kelsey Gray belted a single through the hole at second base to knock in senior Kristen Ozbun and freshman Kelsey Dutton. Ozbun and Dutton reached base previously on infield singles.

However, Bethany came back with two runs following inning to get the win, 3-2.

Dutton (4-5) took the loss for the Bulldogs. She pitched 6.0 innings, striking out two. Bethany’s Stephanie Tyler earned the win for the Swedes.

Offensively for McPherson, Ozbun tallied two hits, while Gray recorded two RBIs.

Game 2 – Bethany 4, McPherson 0

In game two, the Bulldogs were limited to just three hits, falling to Bethany 4-0.

For the second game in a row, BC opened the game with a run in the first inning. The Swedes would tack on another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Sophomore Katie Logan (1-6) took the loss for McPherson. Logan pitched 6.0 innings allowing four runs, five walks and striking out three.

Offensively for the Bulldogs, Kristen Ozbun, Kelsey Gray and Andrea Falk each recorded a hit.

The Bulldogs will return to action Tuesday, April 13, when they play host to the University of Saint Mary. Game one of the double header is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
