Hastings, Neb. – Concordia raced out to an early two-set lead, but the Bulldogs responded with wins in the third and fourth set to bring the match even at 2-2. However, McPherson proved unable to carry the momentum through to the decisive fifth frame as Concordia won the set 15-13 and the match 3-2, Friday afternoon at the Hastings Invitational.

McPherson (4-2, 0-1) competed well throughout the opening two set, recording a match best 18 kills to go along with a .229 hitting percentage in the first, but still fell behind CU 0-2 after two frames.

The Bulldogs stormed back with wins in sets three (26-24) and four (27-25) to draw the match even at two set a piece. Defensively McPherson held the Bulldogs to a .167 hitting percentage in the third set and a .209 in the fourth.

The two sides remained even at 13-13 in the third set, but McPherson could not get past Concordia as CU won the set, 15-13 and the match 3-2.

Junior hitter Kory Hiebert (Goessel, Kan.)led the Bulldogs with 17 kills and five errors for a .343 hitting percentage, while sophomore Natalie Boss (Waterville, Kan.) chipped in 11 kills. Junior setter Brelynn Schloo (Salina, Kan.) posted a double-double with 49 assists and 11 digs.

The Bulldogs continue play in the Hastings Invitational at 7:00 p.m. against the host team Hastings College.
