McPherson, Kan. – A first half goal propelled McPherson (3-1-1) to its third straight victory as the Bulldogs edged Central Christian College (2-2-1), 1-0, Wednesday evening at McPherson Stadium. The shutout marks the third time the Bulldogs have held their opponents scoreless this season.
The Bulldogs scored the only goal of the match in the 31st minute when senior Haley Cook (Littleton, Colo.) sent a cross in from just outside the penalty area. The pass bounced off a pair of Central defenders before landing at the feet of sophomore Amber McKinnon (Littleton, Colo.), who beat the goalkeeper by tucking the ball just inside the far post. The goal is the second of the season for McKinnon.
McPherson took 11 shots in the first half, with Cook taking three and McKinnon two.
MC continued the pressure into the second half, peppering the Tiger goal with eight second-half shots, including two shots on goal. Defensively the Bulldogs held the Tigers to just five shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Molly Whitwell picked up her second shutout of the season, the third for the team. Whitwell played all 90 minutes, recording one save.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday when they travel to Rogers State University. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Claremore, Okla.
