Oklahoma City, Okla. – For the second match in a row Lady Luck was not on the side of the Bulldogs as the McPherson College men’s soccer team fell, 1-0, to Mid-American Christian in double-overtime Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma City, Okla.
With less than ten seconds on the clock in the second overtime, MACU played a corner kick into the McPherson penalty area. Following a deflection, Evangel midfielder Casey King took a strike that found the back of the net at the 109:55 mark to give MACU the victory.
With the loss, McPherson ends the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 3-4-1 record, while the Evangels improve to 3-2-2 on the season.
McPherson had opportunities, but failed to finish. The Bulldogs ended the match with 11 shots and three shots on goal, including five shots in the first overtime period. Senior forward Brent Mulford (Topeka, Kan.) and sophomore midfielder Geverton Ost (Porto Algre, Brazil) led the team with three shots apiece.
Junior goalkeeper Blake Jett (Fort Worth, Texas) recorded six saves, while allowing just the one goal in the loss. Jett played all 109 minutes in goal.
McPherson returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 2, as the Bulldogs hit the road to open KCAC play against the University of Saint Mary. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. in Leavenworth, Kan.
