Box Score 4 Sterling, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team finished a perfect weekend at the Sterling College Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of Dallas Christian College (25-12, 25-11, 25-14) in the first meeting between the two programs. The Bulldogs opened on Friday with wins over Oklahoma Wesleyan (3-0) and host Sterling College (3-0), before defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan (3-1) for a second time Saturday morning.
Sophomore Natalie Boss led McPherson with a 36 kills on 87 swings for the weekend.
Match 1 – Oklahoma Wesleyan University (Sept. 3)
Boss led the Bulldogs with a season-best 14 kills on 29 swings for a .241 hitting percentage. Juniors Amy Neufeld and Kory Hiebert chipped in six and nine kills, respectively. Junior setter Brelynn Schloo recorded 32 assists, while Neufeld led the defense with four solo blocks.
McPherson took set one decisively, 25-16, on a .457 hitting percentage, but struggled in the second as Oklahoma Wesleyan made a run. Despite the hitting struggles, MC took set two 25-22.
The Bulldogs completed the three set sweep with a 25-13 win in the third. McPherson hit a match best .478 hit percentage in the third set.
Match 2 – Sterling College (Sept. 3)
For the second match in a row, Boss led the team with 10 kills on a .217 hitting percentage. Junior Brooke Wedel recorded a season-high 16 digs in the effort.
McPherson won set one, 25-14, despite hitting only .179 as a team. The Bulldogs continued their hot streak by winning the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-23.
Match 3 – Oklahoma Wesleyan University (Sept. 4)
For the second time in as many days, the McPherson volleyball team knocked off the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles, 25-17, 17-25, 25-20 and 25-14.
Junior Kory Hiebert had her first breakout match of the year. Hiebert recorded a career high 14 kills on 21 attempts for a .619 hitting percentage, while also recording three solo blocks. Natalie Boss chipped in 12 kills respectively.
Setter Brelynn Schloo and libero Brooke Wedel led the defense with 13 and 14 digs respectively.
Match 4 – Dallas Christian College (Sept. 4)
Sophomores Callie McCaffrey and Tiffany Rooker led the Bulldogs with 10 kills apiece, while Lindsey Linnebur distributed 14 assists in the sweep.
The Bulldogs never allowed Dallas Christian to score more than 14 points as MC defeated DCC, 25-12, 25-11 and 25-14.
After the 4-0 weekend in Sterling, the Bulldogs return home for a midweek battle against Bethel College. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the McPherson Sport Center
