McPherson, Kan. – Five different Bulldogs scored, including a hat trick by junior forward
Juan Garcia (Reno, Nev.), as the McPherson College men’s soccer teams cruised past the University of Saint Mary, 7-0, Saturday night at McPherson Stadium.
The win improves McPherson to 6-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while the Spires fall to 1-9-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league action.
Garcia opened the scoring in the eighth minute before knocking home his second in the 29
th minute and completing his first career hat trick with the Bulldogs in the 37
th minute. Senior forward
Tarek Khalidi (Augusta, Kan.) tallied McPherson’s second goal of the evening less than two minutes after Garcia’s first score.
McPherson maintained the heavy pressure in the second half. Junior
Sam Tucker (Thornton, Colo.) opened the second period onslaught with a goal in the 61
st minute on an assist from junior forward
Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.). Walsh had earlier assisted on two of Garcia’s goals. Sophomore forward
Ramsey Khalidi (Augusta, Kan.) added MC’s sixth goal in the 79
th minute before junior
Sebastian Toro (Granada Hills, Calif.) wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 80
th minute.
On the night, McPherson tallied 30 shots, including 17 on goal, while holding the Spires to just six shots. Additionally, MC held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Garcia led the Bulldogs with six shots, while freshman midfielder
Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) added five. Senior goalkeeper
Blake Jett (Fort Worth, Texas) earned his third shutout with one save in 90 minutes. He improves to 5-2-0 on the season.
McPherson returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they host Tabor College. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at McPherson Stadium.
