McPherson, Kan. –
Looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss at Bethel on Thursday, the McPherson College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-21) sweep of Ottawa University Saturday morning at the McPherson Sport Center.

With the win, McPherson improves to 6-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while the Braves fall to 7-10 on the season and 4-3 in the KCAC.

Senior middle hitter Amy Neufeld (Hillsboro, Kan.) led McPherson with eight kills, while fellow senior middle hitter Kory Hiebert (Goessel, Kan.) added seven kills and five block assists. Junior setter Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) dished out a match-high 16 assists, while senior libero Brooke Wedel (Moundridge, Kan.) paced MC with 16 digs.

As a team, McPherson ended the contest with a .196 attacking percentage and 10.0 total team blocks, while Ottawa hit -0.044 with only four team blocks.

The Bulldogs wasted no time seizing momentum with a 12-6 run to open set one, including three kills from Neufeld. A second run in the set pushed McPherson’s lead out to 23-15 before the Bulldogs completed the opening frame victory, 25-16, on a Neufeld and Ashlee Maier (Claflin, Kan.) block.

Much like the opening set, the Bulldog controlled the entirety of set two. MC scored eight of the first 10 points to take an 8-2 advantage following an Emily Girard (Osborne, Kan.) kill. Ottawa momentarily closed the gap midway through the frame, but MC responded with a 10-2 run to take a 21-11 lead. A Tiffany Rooker (Hillsboro, Kan.) ended the set, 25-13.

The two sides went back and forth in the third set, but McPherson prevailed with a 3-0 run capped by a Karina Harvey (Walton, Kan.) service ace to end the match, 25-21.

For Ottawa, Chrissie Jeannin and Allie Arnold each had seven kills with Jeannin leading the team with 14 assists.

McPherson returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 4, when they host the University of Saint Mary.  First serve is scheduled 7 p.m. (CST).
