Winfield, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team defeated Southwestern College, 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 25-14), to complete the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference season series sweep against the Moundbuilders, Monday night at Stewart Field House.
With the victory, McPherson extends its win streak to a season-best three matches as the Bulldogs improve to 8-12 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Southwestern falls to 3-18 overall and 1-10 in league play. The Builders have lost 14 consecutive matches.
Freshman middle hitter
Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) led the Bulldogs with a career-high 12 kills on a .346 hitting percentage. She also added six digs and one solo block against the Moundbuilders. Senior middle hitter
Amy Neufeld (Hillsboro, Kan.) added 11 kills, one ace, five digs and two block assists, while junior outside hitter
Natalie Boss (Waterville, Kan.) chipped in 10 kills. Junior setter
Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) dished out a team-high 19 assists, while senior setter
Brelynn Schloo (Salina, Kan.) had 18. Senior libero
Brooke Wedel (Moundridge, Kan.) led the match with 15 digs.
As a team, McPherson hit .222 with 47 kills and 19 errors on 126 total attacks. The Bulldogs added nine total team blocks and 61 digs in the effort.
Southwestern was led in hitting by Jordan Stakler who finished the night with 11 kills.
McPherson returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Kansas Wesleyan University. The Coyotes are currently unbeaten in conference action. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CST).
