Wichita, Kan. – Four different Bulldogs notched goals, including two from freshman forward
Stephanie Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.), as the McPherson College women’s soccer team ran away with a 5-1 victory at Friends University Saturday night.
The win improves MC to 6-7-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, while the Falcons fall to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
McPherson’s first goal came in the sixth minute when freshman forward
Geneva Gray (Littleton, Colo.) found the back of the net for a team-leading seventh time. The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead into the break following additional goals from Stephanie Cornell and junior midfielder
Jennifer Carlson (Kansas City, Mo.).
The Bulldogs maintained the pressure in the second period as junior forward
Stephanie Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) netted MC’s fourth goal of the evening. Friends cut the deficit to 4-1 in the 73
rd minute, but McPherson put the match to rest in the 88
th minute when Stephanie Cornell netted her second goal of the match.

Tori Verdieck (New Castle, Colo.) allowed one goal and made six saves in 90 minutes to earn the win. Gray paced the offense with five shots, as the Bulldogs outshot Friends, 19-10, including 15 shots on frame.
The Bulldogs return home on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they host Sterling College at McPherson Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CST).
