McPherson, Kan. –
The McPherson College men’s soccer team used Tarek Khalidi's (Augusta, Kan.) goal in the 51st minute to edge visiting Bethany College, 3-2, in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at McPherson Stadium.

With the win, McPherson moves to 10-5-0 on the year and 5-2-0 in KCAC play, while the Swedes fall to 3-13-0 overall and 2-5-0 in league action.

Forward Juan Garcia (Reno, Nev.) opened the afternoon’s scoring with his team-leading 10th goal of the season in the fourth minute off an assist from Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas). The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 2-0 a little more than 10 minutes later when  Christian Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.) played a ball to a streaking Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) who took a couple of touches before blasting the ball past the Swede goalkeeper.

However, the Swedes answered with scores in the 27th and 31st minutes to knot the score, 2-2, at the break.

Despite the swing in momentum to end the half, the Bulldogs regrouped and took back the lead in the 51st minute when Kahlidi chested down a Michael Phillips (Spring Branch, Texas) pass before taking one touch and firing a left footed shot into the back of the net for the eventual game winner. The score is Khalidi’s fifth of the season.

As a team, McPherson outshot Bethany 19-7.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Southwestern College. Kickoff between McPherson and the Moundbuilders is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CST).
