McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s soccer team extended its win streak to three, as the Bulldogs knocked off Bethany College, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference action at McPherson Stadium.
The victory improves the Bulldogs to 8-7-1 overall, including a 5-1-1 record in the KCAC, while the Swedes fall to 3-10-1 overall and 1-6-0 in conference.
McPherson was firing on all cylinders both offensively and defensively, as the Bulldogs outshot the Swedes 24-2, while goalkeeper
Tori Verdieck (New Castle, Colo.) posted her second consecutive shutout with two saves in 90 minutes.
Morgan Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) got the Bulldogs on the board in the 43
rd minute on an assist from
Taylor Gillispie (Raymore, Mo.). Anderson received the ball at her feet following a Gillispie shot that the Swede goalkeeper failed to hold. Bethany would hold off the McPherson attack the final few minutes of the half, sending the Bulldogs into the half with a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs grew their lead to 2-0 in the 65
th minute when
Jennifer Carlson (Kansas City, Mo.) notched her third goal of the season off an assist from
Cheyna Buchman (McPherson, Kan.). Carlson added her second of the match three minutes later when she scored off a
Geneva Gray (Littleton, Colo.) shot that bounced off the crossbar.
McPherson created a few additional opportunities in the final 22 minutes, but failed to find the back of the net.
Stephanie Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led MC with six shots, while Carlson had four.
The Bulldogs return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Southwestern College. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Moundbuilders is scheduled for 5 p.m. (CST).
