Leavenworth, Kan. – Middle hitter
Kory Hiebert (Goessel, Kan.) led MC with 11 kills along with seven blocks as the McPherson College volleyball team got back on the winning track Monday night with a 3-1 win at the University of Saint Mary.
The victory improves MC to 11-16 overall and 8-9 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while the Spires fall to 7-21 overall and 4-13 in the league.
In addition to Hiebert, outside hitter
Natalie Boss (Waterville, Kan.) added nine kills on 20 attempts, while freshman outside hitter
Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) chipped in with eight kills, respectively. Setters
Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) and
Brelynn Schloo (Salina, Kan.) each posted a double-double, as Hoffman dished out a team-high 23 assists, while picking up 10 digs. Schloo nearly matched Hoffman with 11 assists and 12 digs.
Defensively, libero
Brooke Wedel (Moundridge, Kan.) led the Bulldogs with 33 digs, while defensive specialist
Karina Harvey (Walton, Kan.) added 17 digs.
McPherson rolled to a 2-0 advantage following a 25-23 win in set one and a come from behind, 26-24, victory in set two. The Spires bounced back to take set three, 25-23, before McPherson closed the match, 25-13, in the final frame.
As a team, McPherson ended the contest hitting .135 with 45 kills on 171 attempts.
The Bulldogs return to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Sterling College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Warrior Gymnasium.
