McPherson, Kan. –
Four different Bulldogs scored, including three goals in the second half, as the McPherson College men’s soccer team knocked off Tabor College, 4-1, Wednesday evening at McPherson Stadium.
 
McPherson controlled a majority of the tempo to improve to 7-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while the Blue Jays fall to 7-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action.
 
Junior forward Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) put McPherson on the scoreboard first when he scored his fourth goal on the season off a throw in from junior midfielder Jared Kientz (Derby, Kan.). Tabor equalized six minutes later when Robert Masson slipped  a ball past the outstretched McPherson goalkeeper Blake Jett (Fort Worth, Texas) to tie the score 1-1.
 
The Bulldogs broke the draw with the eventual game winner in the 53rd minute off the foot of junior forward Juan Garcia (Reno, Nev.). Garcia took one touch inside the penalty area on a pass from freshman midfielder Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) before beating the Tabor goalkeeper far post. McPherson added to their lead a minute later as junior forward Geverton Ost (Porto Algre, Brazil) beat a TC defender and chipped the goalkeeper into the upper corner of the net.
 
McPherson added an exclamation point to the victory in the 56th minute when senior defender Kyle Smith (Wichita, Kan.) scored his third goal of the season to give MC a 4-1 lead.
 
Jett earned his sixth victory of the season with two saves in 90 minutes of action.
 
As a team, McPherson tallied 17 shots, including eight on goal. The Blue Jays held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.
 
McPherson returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they continue conference play at Ottawa University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
