Junior goalkeeper Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) posted her second consecutive shutout, as the McPherson College women’s soccer team defeated Tabor College 2-0 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening at McPherson Stadium. The victory extends MC’s win streak to a season-high three games.
 
The victory improves McPherson to 5-6-0 overall and 2-0-0, while the Blue Jays fall to 4-7-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in KCAC play.  
 
Whitwell made one save in 90 minutes for her fourth shutout of the campaign.
 
Junior midfielder Jennifer Carlson (Kansas City, Mo.) opened the scoring in the 29th minute on a deflection off a freshman forward Geneva Gray (Littleton, Colo.) shot. Carlson took one touch off the deflection before burying the ball into the back of the net.
 
Carlson and Gary reversed roles a little over a minute later when Carlson sent a ball from the right side into the penalty area and onto the head of the streaking Gray to give MC a 2-0 advantage at the 30:53 mark. The goal is Gray’s team leading sixth of the season.
 
Neither side proved able to score in the second period despite a pair of upwind chances from the Bulldogs.
 
As a team, McPherson held a 13-6 advantage in shots, while maintaining a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
Gray led the Bulldogs with four shots, including three on goal.
 
Freshman forward Jessica Renzelman led the Blue Jays with three shots, while junior defender Megan Beals tallied two.
 
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Ottawa University, Kickoff between the Bulldogs and the Braves is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at People’s Bank Field.
