– Ottawa University’s Paul Oswald scored the game winner in the 58th minute, as the McPherson College men’s soccer team’s comeback fell short, 2-1, against the Braves Saturday night at People’s Bank Field in Ottawa, Kan.
 
The loss drops MC to 7-4-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play, while the Braves improve to 5-5-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the KCAC.
 
Ottawa opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Erich Kevari connected with Zach Doolan to give OU a 1-0 lead. McPherson knotted the score, 1-1, in the 52nd on Tarek Khalidi’s four goal of the season.
 
However, the Braves scored in the 58th minute and held off the McPherson offense to earn the victory.
 
Khalidi and Michael Phillips led MC with four shots each, while Geverton Ost posted three shots. Senior goalkeeper Blake Jett made four saves in the loss.
 
As a team, McPherson outshot Ottawa 14-10 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Bethel College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
