Box Score Bartlesville, Okla. – The McPherson College women’s basketball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night against Oklahoma Wesleyan University as the Bulldogs fell 68-61 in non-conference action in Bartlesville, Okla.
The Bulldogs got off to a great start as McPherson converted six of their first seven field goals en route to an early15-4 lead. However, over the next 15 minutes of the opening period Oklahoma Wesleyan climbed back into the contest and eventually tied the score, 23-23, with 4:33 remaining in the period. Brittany Pittas (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) connected on a two-pointer, but the Eagles would take the lead for good just moments later.
McPherson was led by junior
Taylor Puttergill (Tryon, Neb.), who finished with a season-high 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Additionally, Puttergill chipped in five rebounds. Sophomore
Kt Porter (Wichita, Kan.) and Pittas also finished in double-figures with 11 point apiece with each hitting one of McPherson’s five 3-pointers. Senior
Elice Frey (Riley, Kan.) had a solid night on the boards for McPherson as she grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds in the effort. The performance is the third straight double-digit rebounding contest for Frey.
The Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent (23-of-69) from the field, 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from 3-point range and 47.6 percent (10-for-21) from the free throw line. McPherson was out-rebounded 49-38 and committed 21 turnovers that led to a 14-8 advantage for Oklahoma Wesleyan in points off turnovers.
Nichole Tate led the Eagles with 20 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field, while going 14-for-14 from the free throw line. OWU shot 30.5 percent (18-of-59) from the field, including 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from beyond the arc. Additionally, the Eagles converted 26-of-42 attempts (61.9 percent) from the foul line.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 1, when they open Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Bethel College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT) inside Thresher Gymnasium.
