Scouting Bethel
The Threshers continue a two-game home stand with a 4-3 overall record and a three-game winning streak following a 74-38 thrashing of Central Christian College (Kan.) on Monday night. Head coach Mark Fox is in his seventh season at the helm of the women’s program and returns 11 players from last season’s squad that finished the year with a 16-14 overall record and 9-9 mark in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
In their last game against Central Christian, Bethel struggled offensively, shooting only 30.7 percent (23-of-75) from the field, but forced 35 Tiger turnovers en route to the 36-point victory. Additionally, the BC defense held Central to only nine field goals and 20.9 percent (9-for-43) shooting on the evening.
This year’s Bethel team is a scrappy side that frustrates its opponent into turnovers, while also crashing hard on the boards. The Threshers currently rank fifth nationally in steals per game (16.14) and 16th in total steals (113), while ranking amongst the top 15 in the NAIA in offensive rebounds per game (17.6) and total rebounds per game (45.1). Offensively, BC averages 69.1 points per game on 35.1 percent (163-of-464) shooting from the field.
Individually, sophomore Chelsea Harris and sophomore Payton Walker have established themselves as two of BC’s primary scoring threats. Harris, a transfer from Fort Hays State University, leads the team with 91 points and a 13.0 points per game average, while also ranking eighth nationally in steals per game (3.6). On the season, Harris is shooting 37.9 percent (36-of-95) from the field and 65.5 percent (19-of-29) from the foul line. Harris has scored in double figures in all seven of BC’s games this season

Walker set a career-high on Nov. 8 against Central Christian when she hit 6-of-8 3-point attempts en route to 23 points. Walker saw limited action last season.
Senior Jessica Muckenthaler is the last of the notable Threshers this season, as she leads the team with 35 total assists and 26 made free throws. Additionally, she ranks third on the squad in scoring at 11.4 points per game.
