Box Score Denver, Colo. – The McPherson College women’s basketball team snapped a two game losing streak with an 87-83 victory over Arizona Christian University Friday evening at the Wildcat Classic in Denver, Colo.
With the victory, McPherson improves to 1-2 overall on the season, while the Firestorm falls to 0-1 overall.
Sophomore
Kt Porter (Wichita, Kan.) connected on 9-of-17 attempts from the field en route to a team-high 19 points, while freshman
Brittany Pittas (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) scored a career-high 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting and a perfect 3-for-3 night from the free throw line. Sophomore
Kaylee Cramer (Healy, Kan.) rounded out the MC double figure scorers with 14 points, while also pulling down 11 rebounds.
As a team, McPherson finished the game making 45.9 percent (38-of-85) from the field. The Bulldogs struggled from the foul line shooting just 42.1 percent (8-of-19), but out rebounded the Arizona Christian, 52-43.
The two sides battled back and forth until the Bulldogs responded with a 14-1 run to take a 41-28 lead with 5:21 left before the half. McPherson maintained a 56-43 lead at the half. ACU made a run at the lead in the second half, closing the gap to five 78-73 late in the second frame, but McPherson held on for the six point victory.
Arizona Christian shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the floor and 78.3 percent (18-of-23) from the foul line. Steffani Liscum led ACU with 30 points, including 17 points in the second half.
McPherson returns to action Saturday when it takes on host Johnson & Wales University at 3 p.m.
