McPherson, Kan. – The fourth seeded McPherson College men’s soccer team came from behind to draw with No. 5 seed Tabor College, 1-1, before advancing on penalty kicks, 5-3, Saturday night in the quarterfinal round of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at McPherson Stadium.
With the tie, McPherson goes to 11-6-1 on the season, while Tabor ends the 2011 season with an 11-5-2 overall mark.
Blue Jay midfielder Marian Saar scored the matches’ opening goal in the 65
th minute to give Tabor the 1-0 advantage midway through the second half. McPherson, however, would equalize in the 78
th minute when freshman midfielder
Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) netted his third goal of the season off an assists from junior forward
Juan Garcia (Reno, Nev.).
The two sides battled to a 1-1 draw through the end of regulation and both overtimes to force the contest to be decided in a shootout.

Michael Phillips (Spring Branch, Texas) set the tone for the shootout, netting MC’s first attempt. Junior

Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) would follow Phillips’ lead, as the Bulldogs won the shootout, 5-3.
Overall, the Bulldogs finished the contest with a 21-13 advantage in shots, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Additionally, McPherson took four corner kicks to just three for the Blue Jays.
Senior goalkeeper Blake Jett earned the victory with two saves in 110 minutes of action.
McPherson returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Nov. 9 when the Bulldogs travel to No. 1 seed Kansas Wesleyan University. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Salina Stadium.
