McPherson, Kan. –
The McPherson College baseball team dropped both ends of a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the Grant Sports Complex in McPherson. The Bulldogs were defeated in game one by an 8-4 score before dropping game two 7-2.

The Bulldogs slip to 0-22 overall and 0-14 in conference play, while the Coyotes improve to 20-10 overall and 10-2 in the KCAC.

Kansas Wesleyan jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the first two innings, including a home run in the top of the second. The Coyotes added two more (5-0) in the top of the fifth before McPherson answered with a three-run bottom half. Freshman outfielder Brad Stanley (Coffeyville, Kan.) reached on a walk and advanced to third on freshman Dorian Shelton's (Kansas City, Mo.) single to shallow left. Shelton advanced to second on the Coyote throw to third. Stanley scored on a freshman Daxton Deal (Abilene, Texas) infield single cut the deficit to 5-1. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on when freshman Chace Evans (White Oak, Texas) hit a two-run double to make it a 5-3 Coyote advantage.

The Coyotes answered with a three-run home run in the top of the sixth to lock up the victory. McPherson added a run when Stanley singled to shallow right to score freshman Landon Pecot (White Oak, Texas), who was pinch running for MC pitcher Ian Richards (Dallas, Texas).

Freshman Taylor Werts pitched five innings in taking the loss. Werts allow six hits and five earned runs over five innings. He walked three and struck out two in the effort.

Much like game on, the Coyotes jumped out to a 6-0 lead behind a run in the first, three in the third and two in the fourth.

The Bulldogs began to show signs of life in the bottom of the fourth when freshman catcher Brandon Hicks (Abilene, Texas) singled to center to give MC runners at first and second with no outs. Evans reached earlier on a hit by pitch. A double steal advanced both runners to second and third before sophomore first baseman Steven Paramore (Mansfield, Texas) singled, scoring one, to cut the KWU lead to 6-1.

McPherson added another in the bottom of the fifth, but failed to overcome the Kansas Wesleyan lead.

Freshman left-handed pitcher Jacob Vogt (Drumright, Okla.) went the distance in the loss. He allowed seven earned runs over seven innings, while striking out eight.

McPherson returns to action on Saturday, April 9 when they host KCAC conference opponent University of Saint Mary. Game one is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
