In game one, the Bulldogs received a strong pitching performance from sophomore Kelsey Dutton (Limon, Colo.), as she allowed just one earned run in seven innings, while striking out five. In addition to her pitching performance, Dutton finished the contest 2-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBIs.
The two teams traded scores in the first and third innings before McPherson took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth. Friends answered with one in the fifth before the Bulldogs sealed the victory with a pair in the top of the sixth to make it a 6-4 win.
In game two, junior first baseman Katie Logan (Clay Center, Kan.) paced a Bulldog offense that scored 12 runs on 11 hits with a 3-for-5 effort from the plate, including a home run and five RBIs. Senior Jamie Gilbert (Joplin, Mo.) joined and junior Sadie Green (Hutchinson, Kan.) joined Logan with multi-hit games with two hits apiece, respectively. Gilbert registered a game-high three runs scored.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early three run lead in the top of the first before the Falcons answered with one in the bottom of the frame to make the score 3-1 after the first. However, a run in the second and sixth in the third gave MC a commanding 10-1 advantage after three.
Friends chipped away with a pair in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-4, but McPherson closed the door with two in the seventh en route to the victory.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, April 16 when they travel to Salina, Kan. to take on Kansas Wesleyan University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
