McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College will host its 2011 season opening match Wednesday night when York College (Neb.) visits McPherson Stadium. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and the Panthers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CST). Live stats will be provided through DakStats and a video stream will be available at www.macbulldogs.com.
Head coach Rob Talley looks to bounce back after a disappointing 2010 campaign that saw MC finish fifth in conference play with a 7-8-3 overall record (4-4-1 KCAC).
McPherson returns five starters from a year ago, including All-KCAC goalkeeper
Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas). Whitwell started 16 matches between the pipes for the Bulldogs, recording a 1.32 goals against average and .811 save percentage. She posted a 6-7-3 record in goal, including five shutouts.
The Bulldogs played one exhibition match this summer, knocking off Allen County Community College 5-1 on Aug. 24. McPherson took a 5-0 advantage, including three goals by freshman forward
Stephanie Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.), in the first 40 minutes before surrendering a goal to the Red Devils in the 41st minute. The two sides held each other scoreless in the second half.
Following the matchup with York, McPherson heads west to take on the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Sept. 3 and Metro State on Sept. 4.
