Three different Bulldogs scored goals, as the McPherson College men’s soccer team shutout Mid-America Christian University, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at McPherson Stadium. The victory is McPherson’s third shutout of the year.

With the win, the Bulldogs have now won three straight and improve to 4-2-0 on the year, while MACU falls to 2-3-1 overall.

In the first half, McPherson pressured early, as junior forward Juan Garcia (Reno, Nev.) scored his fourth goal in the last three matches in the 15th minute to give MC the early 1-0 lead. Michael Phillips (Spring Branch, Texas) was credited with an assist on the play.

Junior midfielder Jared Kientz (Derby, Kan.) made it a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute, before freshman Tito Ruiz (Weatherford, Texas) put the game to rest with a goal less than 10 minutes later. Ruiz’s goal is the first of his collegiate career.

As a team, McPherson held a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Blake Jett recorded on save in 90 minutes to earn his 14th career shutout. He is now only four shutouts behind the all-time record of 18.

McPherson returns to the pitch on Saturday when they host Oklahoma Wesleyan. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and the Eagles is scheduled for 4 p.m.
