Hillsboro, Kan. – After winning the opening set, 25-22, the McPherson College volleyball team failed to hold off the Blue Jay attack, as the Bulldogs dropped their fourth straight road match, 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 17-25, 17-25), Wednesday night at Tabor College.
With the loss, McPherson falls to 4-11 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while Tabor improves to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in KCAC action.
Senior middle hitter Kory Hiebert (Goessel, Kan.) led the Bulldogs with 10 kills, five block assists and one solo block, while senior hitter Amy Neufeld (Hillsboro, Kan.) added seven kills and one ace. Sophomore setter Shelby Yardley (Derby, Kan.) dished out a team-high 16 assists and senior libero Brooke Wedel (Moundridge, Kan.) paced the Bulldog defense with 21 digs.
In set one, McPherson hit a match-high .188 with 11 kills on 32 total attempts, while holding Tabor to a 0.057 attacking percentage, including 10 errors, to take the opening frame 25-22.
However, the host Blue Jays bounced back in set two behind a .345 hitting percentage to cruise to a 25-16 victory. Tabor continued that momentum with 25-17 victories in set three and four to earn the win.
As a team, Tabor held a 0.204 to 0.043 attacking percentage advantage over the Bulldogs.
McPherson continues KCAC play on Tuesday, Sept. 27, when they host Bethany College at the McPherson Sport Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CST).
